Education - it's so easy!

Kulturprinsen is invited to join the debate at Folkemødet 2022 Education - it's so easy. The debate is part of the debate series "Children, Youth and Education - Education and Research" by the Danish Universities of Applied Sciences

Time: 17 June 2022 at 16:30 - 17:15

Venue: J13 - Danske Professionshøjskolers Sangbar

Children's play is under constant scrutiny, because play is the main ingredient of good childhood, there is broad agreement among researchers and educators. There is also consensus that play develops children into well-rounded schoolchildren and adults. But why do children always have to be something other than children? And what happens when adults always want to interfere in children's play? How does it affect children and their education when we add, for example, art and culture to play? Are they happier, smarter, more educated? Or should we recognise that play in itself might be enough? That play has value in itself when it is allowed to unfold among children without the super-educated (and trained) adults on the sidelines. Is all this interference in play really the children's need?
